Sofia University welcomes students with renovated facade

Bulgarian silicone paints have changed the destroying building of the Theological seminary

KLIMENT OHRIDSKY University of Sofia shall welcome on Monday, October 2, 2006 its students for the new academic year with a renovated facade. The central building and the University’s library have been repaired under the project of Beautiful Bulgaria, entirely with native materials.
Almost 2500 kg of silicone paint of the Bulgarian manufacturer Terazid EOOD were necessary to paint the facade of the Rectorate, having an area of 5000 sq. m. The colours- white and pale yellow have been especially worked up for the project implementation after consulting representatives of the Beautiful Bulgaria project and the National Institute for Monuments of Culture. The complete facade restoration which has not been renovated for the last 20 years took 6 months.
The central building of the Sveti Kliment Ohridsky Sofia University – the Rectorate is one of the architectural sights of Sofia. The construction of the central part began in 1924 and was completed in 1934 under the project of the French architect Breanson. Later, the Bulgarian architect Yordan Milanov participated in the project with considerable improvements.
The Bulgarian Theological Seminary Sveti Ivan Rilski may also boast with significant restoration of its architectural appearance as a monument of culture. The buildings and the church have been designed by the Austrian architect, Fredrich Grunanger and were built during 1902-1904 period.
In summer the church Sveti Ivan Rilski was renovated, and by the end of the year the repair works on the facade of the central part of the seminary should be completed. Similar repair has not been done for the last 30 years.
The total renovated facade area of the Seminary’s buildings go beyond 6000 sq. m., and the colours are traditional for a theological institution – white, yellow and dark red. The contractor – Edinstvo-94 Co-operative has also chosen Bulgarian silicone paints made by Terazid EOOD. Each of the colours has been approved by representatives of the Institute for Monuments of Culture and the Beautiful Bulgaria project after especially selected pattern.
